Pétur Heidarsson received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Biochemistry at the University of Iceland, where he studied the link between enzyme kinetics and flexibility. In 2008 he joined Prof. Birthe Kragelund at the Structural Biology and NMR Laboratory for Ph.D studies where he used nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy and single-molecule optical tweezers to study the protein folding problem. Pétur then studied misfolding and chaperone action in a collaborative project between the University of Cambridge (Prof. Jane Clarke) and the University of Copenhagen. Subsequently, he worked on understanding intrinsically disordered protein complexes with single-molecule spectroscopy, at the lab of Prof. Ben Schuler, University of Zurich. In 2019, Pétur joined the Department of Biochemistry, University of Iceland, as Associate Professor of Biochemistry and was promoted to full Professor in 2024. In 2024, Pétur joined the Section for Biomolecular Sciences at the University of Copenhagen (UCPH), as Associate professor of Biochemistry. At UCPH, Pétur is affiliated with the Structural Biology and NMR Laboratory (SBiNLab) and the NNF Challenge Centre REPIN, which is dedicated to rethinking protein interactions in the framework of molecular disorder.
